Born at 62, Hardwick Street, Tibshelf, Derbyshire.
Served as 1603276, Gunner, Royal Artillery during the War.
Married : 4.Q.1940 ref. G.R.O. Chesterfield 7b.2695 : 28.12.1940 ref. certificate No. 90.
Died as a Prisoner of War, at "Chungarra", near Three Pagodas Pass, on the Burma - Thailand border. He was buried at Thanbyuzayat, Burma.
There are photos of the grave at Thanbyuzayat.
Rueben's birth was registered 3.Q.1913 (ref.G.R.O.Mansfield 7b.207) : 26.05.1913 ref. certificate No. 399. This would have made him only 30 when he died, although the age of 31 is mentioned on his grave. There is a wall plaque in the Methodist Church, in Tibshelf, to his Memory.
Barry & Margaret Kirk, Helen Preece (formally Kirk), and Richard Kirk, visited the grave, in Burma, on Remembrance Day 11th November 2000. This was a three day round trip form Rangoon (Yangon) and back. We were invited to join a Remembrance Service at the Cemetery at 11 o'clock, by the Australian Ambassador and a group of Australians who coincidentally arrived soon after we did.
