I know that this is my grandad's brother, but I need to prove that they are not the same James Kirk.

I now believe that they are in fact, the same James Kirk. Both of the James Kirk junior's birthdays match, as well as the father's. Also I have now found the marriage of James Kirk to Ellen Pearce Stapleton. I still need more evidence to be absolutely sure !
